One&Only Mandarina Is One of the Best Family Resorts in Mexico — Here's Why
If you're searching for the best family resorts in Mexico, One&Only Mandarina in Riviera Nayarit deserves a serious look. We visited over spring break with our two kids (ages 5 and 7), and what started as a cautiously optimistic booking turned into one of our best family trips ever.
Here's a full breakdown of what to expect.
Rooms: Ocean Cliff Villa with Kids — What You Need to Know
Rating: 10/10

We stayed in an Ocean Cliff Villa, which was an excellent choice for a family of four. The suite includes a king bed, a pull-out sofa, a private pool, and an indoor/outdoor shower. The wardrobes were large enough that our kids used them as a daily hiding spot — which tells you something about the scale of the space.
One minor note: the soaking tub takes upward of 45 minutes to fill due to low water pressure. A small gripe in an otherwise exceptional room.

Families with children under 12 should know upfront: kids are not permitted in the Treehouse rooms. After touring one and seeing the dramatic drop-off from the plunge pool, we completely understood the policy.
Facilities: Pools, Spa, and What to Skip
Rating: 9/10
One&Only Mandarina has multiple pools across the property. We spent the majority of our time at the beach pool, but also loved a cabana afternoon at the pool near Alma restaurant. The adult-only pool has impressive views and is worth a quiet morning visit — best enjoyed during a kids' club drop-off.
The spa is a genuine highlight for parents. My daughter and I both got massages. Note that children are not permitted in the jacuzzi or mud bath areas, but the staff thoughtfully sent my daughter home with mud so she could have her own version of the experience — a small gesture that stuck with us.
Kids Club: The Unexpected Star of the Trip
Rating: 10/10

My kids are notoriously reluctant to stay at resort kids' clubs. They didn't want to leave this one.
The kids' club is included in the room rate and features a multi-story treehouse and — this is not a drill — a pet bearded dragon. It was an enormous hit. For families weighing whether One&Only Mandarina is worth the premium, the kids' club alone goes a long way toward justifying it.
The Beach: Protected Bay, Warm Water, Excellent Service
Rating: 10/10
The beach at One&Only Mandarina sits in a protected bay, which keeps the water warm, calm, and exceptionally clear — ideal for families with young children. We snorkeled and boogie boarded for hours.
The beach staff were attentive and genuinely kind. When my daughter got a minor jellyfish sting, they were on it immediately. Food orders from the beach never took more than 20 minutes. This is the kind of seamless service that makes a family vacation actually feel like a vacation.
Service: Much Improved From Earlier Reviews
One concern going in was reports of slow golf cart response times. That was not our experience. Our villa host Jorge was exceptional — we never waited more than five minutes for a cart pickup. He mentioned the property has made the golf cart system a focused area of improvement, and it shows.
Housekeeping arrived daily at our requested time of 10am and somehow transformed our chaos back into calm every single day. Food and drink service across all three restaurants we visited was excellent.
One&Only Mandarina vs. Rosewood Mandarina: A Quick Comparison
We crossed over to the Rosewood Mandarina for dinner one evening, which gave us a useful firsthand comparison.
The two resorts offer genuinely different experiences. One&Only leans into jungle canopy and treetop seclusion — dramatic, immersive, and highly dependent on golf cart transport.
Rosewood is more beach-forward and walkable, with a more open, social atmosphere.
The Rosewood beachfront rooms are beautiful, and their Japanese restaurant was excellent. The beach bar, Buena Onda, offers a stunning sunset backdrop — mosquitos included.
On pricing: Rosewood's entry-level rates are currently lower than One&Only's, making it a compelling option for travelers who want a taste of Mandarina at a more accessible price point. The kids' club at Rosewood also looked impressive, and we promised our kids a return visit.
Our honest take: if budget allows, both resorts are worth experiencing — they complement rather than compete with each other.
Final Verdict: Is One&Only Mandarina One of the Best Family Resorts in Mexico?

Yes — and we say that without hesitation. Between the included kids' club, the protected beach, the spacious family villas, and a level of service that anticipates rather than just responds, One&Only Mandarina delivers on its reputation.
We left relaxed, slightly sunburned, and already planning a return trip. The kids left with a new obsession with boogie boarding and an inexplicable fondness for a bearded dragon named after no one in particular.
Best for: Families with children ages 4–12, couples seeking jungle-canopy luxury, travelers comparing One&Only vs. Rosewood Mandarina.
