In May, I traveled to London with my husband for a long spring weekend and had a spectacular stay ...At Sloane, which is tucked discreetly behind a 19th-century red-brick façade just off Sloane Square. The hotel arrives quietly—no bright lights, no flashy signage—just an elegant nod for those already in the know.

Arrival: Through a Secret Door

Pass the subtle Holbein Place entrance and you instantly feel the shift from London’s urban bustle to something intimate and refined. It’s as if you’re arriving at a friend’s grand townhouse—subtle, understated, and decidedly revealing only once you cross the threshold .

Check-In: Understated Luxury

Instead of a bustling front desk, check-in took place in the elegant library-lounge: plush velvet sofas, antique books, and a flute of champagne to set the tone. It felt more like being welcomed into a private townhouse than a hotel lobby.

Room: The Apartment Sloane - A Spacious Haven

  • Size & layout: 84 sqm (approx. 904 sq ft), two bedrooms with a king and queen bed, elegantly separated by a generous living room — perfect for friends or family.

  • Bathrooms: Two full marble-tiled bathrooms, both with underfloor heating; one with a freestanding tub and the other a spacious walk-in shower—all luxuriously appointed.

  • Design details: Layered William Morris and Neo‑Grec wallpapers, Loro Piana cashmere drapes, and a curated bookshelf that invited evening reads. A walk-in wardrobe hidden behind a discreet door added a sense of playful discovery.

The Secret Sixth-Floor Restaurant

A hush descends as you ascend to the top-floor restaurant, which channels Whistler’s Peacock Room—think latticed shelving lined with vases, under a glass cupola overlooking Chelsea rooftops. The menu dances between French and Asian influences—Tom Yum black halibut, beef tartare, spiced aubergine—that hit the mark every time. It’s here guests linger over a leisurely breakfast or dinner, immersed in vaulted charm and flickering candlelight.

A Subterranean Speakeasy: Velvet, Jazz & Cocktails

Head downstairs to reveal yet another hidden layer—an intimate bar reached through its own entrance. It’s all dim lighting, velvet seats, cashmere drapes, and the occasional low-burning candle. Whether settling in with cocktails like the Mezcaloma or a perfectly stirred martini, it offers that warm hush of a true speakeasy—extra buzz on weekends with an in-house DJ.

A tucked-away terrace invites cigar lovers to linger even longer away from prying eyes .

Final Word: A Symphony of Details

Spread across just 30 rooms and suites, this hotel strikes a rare balance: opulent yet intimate. Its beauty lies in the details—Chartres-style stained glass, trompe-l’œil finishes, black-and-white photographs lining the stairs, and over 50 bespoke fabrics and 21 carpet designs. At Sloane offers London what many may seek. It’s elegant, understated and discreet, with quiet luxury and aesthetic pleasure at every turn.
